If you’re looking for a NoCo doula, let me introduce you to Marie of Mothering With Marie. She’s a mother of five, a nurturer by nature, and someone whose story and calling fit beautifully into the world of birth work.
“I’m Marie, a mother of five, and the heart behind Mothering With Marie.”
She says, “I’m a birth doula who believes in the power of presence, listening, and holding space during one of life’s most transformative seasons.”
Even just reading her words, you can feel the depth she brings to her work… a blend of calm, personal experience, and genuine compassion.
Rooted in Two States, Supporting Families Across the Region
Marie is based in Cheyenne, Wyoming, raising her own big, beautiful family while supporting others through pregnancy and birth. She shared:
“I serve Southeast WY, Northern CO, and parts of the NE panhandle.”
Her doula journey may be newer on paper, but the foundation behind it has been forming for decades. She explained that her work is:
“rooted in a lifetime of nurturing and supporting others — as a mother, friend, and caregiver, and in the deep, intentional years I spent at home with my own children.”
She’s also part of the KTD + CO team for mentorship and collaboration which is such an empowering community for NoCo birth workers!
From Hospice Work to Birth Work
Marie’s transition into birth work is deeply personal. She told me:
“Before I entered birth work, my passion was in hospice care; a chapter that taught me how to honor life’s transitions with tenderness and respect.”
“I’ve always believed birth and death are two sides of the same coin: both sacred, both requiring presence, both marking profound change.”
After losing her mother in 2018, she shared:
“I knew I needed to step away from death and reclaim my life.”
Meeting her husband and welcoming more children became a deeply healing part of her story. She said:
“My doulas didn’t replace her [at my births], but rather held space for her presence to still be felt. That’s the gift I now hope to give to others.”
What keeps her going today?
“Seeing families leave their birth experience feeling seen, heard, and empowered.”
“Knowing they’ll carry that confidence into their parenting and beyond.”

Marie’s Favorite Part of Being a Doula
Her answer gave me goosebumps:
“It’s the quiet moments when a laboring person locks eyes with me and finds strength she didn’t know she had. Being invited into that sacred space is a privilege I never take for granted.”
It’s exactly the kind of heart-centered doula care families in Northern Colorado are looking for.
A Moment She’s Most Proud Of
Her proudest moment is such a beautiful glimpse into her values:
“Knowing that my work is shaping how [my kids] will one day approach birth and parenting, that’s a legacy I’m deeply proud of.”
Her daughter once wrote a birth plan for school and absolutely nailed it! Talk about generational impact!
The Surprising Parts of Being a Doula
A lot of people don’t realize how much doulas truly do. Marie put it perfectly:
“Many people are surprised that doulas aren’t just there ‘for the birth.’ We support families during pregnancy, throughout labor, and into the postpartum season.”
She also addressed a common myth:
“One big misconception is that doulas are only for ‘natural’ births or home births. We support all births, in all settings, whether medicated, cesarean, or anything in between.”
Yes. This. A thousand times yes.
Marie’s Top 3 Tips for Pregnancy, Birth, & Postpartum
Straight from her heart (and experience):
1️⃣ “You are not failing — you are learning. Every stage is new, and you’re doing better than you think.”
2️⃣ “Breathe deeply and often. It’s the simplest and most powerful tool you have in labor and beyond.”
3️⃣ “Find your people. The right care provider, doula, IBCLC, chiropractor, support groups, etc. Find the mom meet ups and set up the meal trains before you give birth.”

Outside of Doula Work: Sports, Family, & FUN
Marie is outdoorsy, athletic, and competitive in the best way. She said:
“I play intramural sports — volleyball, softball, golf, cornhole — and I’m always up for a good game night or some friendly competition in my fantasy football league.”
She’s also big on family time and staying active, which fits her warm, steady energy so well!
