5 Reasons Why Birth Photography Isn’t Just for First-Time Moms (or Vaginal Births!)

There’s a weird rumor going around that birth photography is only for first-time moms or mamas planning some magical, candlelit, unmedicated birth in a forest. But let me clear that up real quick: absolutely not! Whether it’s your second or sixth rodeo, whether you’re delivering in your living room, a hospital room, or the OR…. your birth matters. And it deserves to be documented!

Some of my favorite births to photograph have been with seasoned parents who really get how fast those moments fly by, and how worth it it is to preserve them. And yes, I’ve documented the most beautiful belly births, too!

Here’s Why Documenting This Birth Still Matters:

1. Every birth is different.
No two stories unfold the same way, and this one deserves its own spotlight. (Even if your birth plan is just “get the baby out and survive.”)

2. Kids love seeing their ‘birth day’ story
It’s a fun way to include them in your family’s growing story, and to remind them that yes, you did in fact give birth to them!

3. You deserve to be in the photos and the story
Not just holding the baby afterward, but IN IT… doing the work, feeling the feelings, being the absolute powerhouse that you are.

4. You’re not starting over, you’re building on it
Your first birth taught you something. So did your second. And your third. By now, you’re basically a birth boss. Every time you give birth, you’re bringing more wisdom, more strength, more YOU to the table. That journey is totally worth celebrating!

5. Because this might be your last baby.
Even more reason to document it. Let’s go out with a bang!

You Deserve This, Too

Whether it’s your first or your fifth baby, your birth is still a big deal! You’re still doing something incredible. You’re still growing and changing and welcoming a whole new person into the world!

So if you’ve been on the fence about hiring a professional to take care of birth photography because you’re “not a first-time mom” or because your birth might not look like what you see on Instagram—this is your sign!

You still get to want this! You still get to celebrate this!

Let’s make sure you have the photos to prove it. ❤️
