If you’re searching for a warm, experienced Fort Collins doula, Michelle Rothenbury is absolutely someone you’ll want to know. She’s been doing this work for seven years, and the way she talks about birth, support, and the families she serves makes it so clear just how much heart she brings into the room!
As Michelle puts it, “I’ve loved moms/babies since I was a little girl so when I later on in my life found out what a Doula was, I said, ‘That’s what I want to do!’”
That childhood dream energy shows up in everything she shares about her work.
Serving Fort Collins, Greeley, Eaton, and Beyond
Michelle lives in Eaton, and she says, “I’ve been a birth Doula for seven years! I live in Eaton but mostly support families in the FOCO area but expanding my reach to the Greeley area and more out East!”
Why She Chose Birth Work (And Why She Still Loves It)
“I keep coming back to this ‘work’ because of the feeling after leaving a birth and once again watching a true miracle. I love seeing the joy in new parent’s eyes and those precious post birth moments that are so tender and vulnerable.”
And honestly… SAME girl! Birth people get it!!

Michelle’s Favorite Part of the Job
Her favorite moment is one so many doulas treasure:
“The relief and face of accomplishment after a baby is born! I love being able to mother the mother postpartum!”
A Proud Doula Moment
Not surprisingly, some of her most meaningful feedback comes from partners:
“When the partner/dad says, ‘I can’t imagine what this would’ve been like without you!’”
Support for the whole family? Yes please!
Things That Surprise People About Doula Life
Michelle jokes that people are often shocked by:
“The length of births I’ve attended — ha!”
(Everyone thinks doulas sleep. We do not. 😂)
She also likes to clear up this big misconception:
“I don’t take over the position of the partner/father. I’m there to join the birth team!”
We love a collaborative queen!
A Birth Moment She’ll Never Forget
This story is everything:
“An Anesthesiologist said, ‘you’ll be coming into the OR the same time our patient is… she’ll need all the support and familiar faces she can get during this time.’ I could’ve cried for my client — we need more doctors like him!”
YESSSSS! More of this energy in birth rooms, please.
Her Top 3 Tips for Pregnancy, Labor, & Postpartum
Michelle’s advice is simple, smart, and so needed:
- “Movement is key in both pregnancy and labor.”
- “You don’t have to do everything your provider suggests.”
- “Rest more than you think in your postpartum period. Our society doesn’t understand that practice…..At. All.”
(May we all rest more than we think.)
If She Weren’t a Doula…
She’d still be doing work that deeply supports families:
“Postpartum Doula, Birth Class Instructor, Crisis Pregnancy Center.”
Truly a helper through and through.
Life Outside of Birth Work
Michelle loves “Hanging out with my husband & babies, day trips to the mountains, uninterrupted long conversation with a friend at a coffee shop.”
