Meet Kylee the Doula: Empowering NoCo Families

When I heard about Kylee the Doula, I knew I had to feature her—because, well, we’re both named Kylie/Kylee! It was meant to be, right?! But beyond the fun name connection, I quickly realized that Kylee is an absolute force in the NoCo doula world. She’s been supporting families in Northern Colorado for five years, starting with miscarriage support, and she’s on a mission to empower, educate, and advocate for birthing parents.

From Miscarriage Support to Birth Work

Kylee’s journey into birth work didn’t start in the delivery room—it started with grief support.

“It was originally the moms in the miscarriage support group who led me into birth work,” she shares. “I was supporting families in their grief journey, and subsequently on the journey to welcome their baby after loss. It was at those births that I realized this was my calling.”

And now? She’s in it for the long haul.

“What keeps me motivated is those ‘wow’ moments with clients, where they look at me with immense gratitude. It’s what reminds me that this work is wildly impactful and truly making a difference.”

The Best Part of Being a NoCo Doula

Kylee absolutely loves the postpartum visits.

“I love hearing how impactful their baby’s birth was for them and seeing my clients start parenthood off on the right foot,” she says. There’s something about reflecting on the experience after the fact—when the dust has settled and the magic has fully sunk in.”

Changing the System, One Birth at a Time

Doula work isn’t just about supporting parents in the moment—it’s also about changing the system for future families.

“2.5 years ago now, I advocated through a really tough situation,” Kylee recalls. “I got a lot of people involved and put things in motion to have hospital policy changed as a result. Recently, I got a text from another doula that said, ‘It’s happening again,’ and I immediately sprung into action.”

The best part?

“I also was told that that policy is almost through,” she says. “This demonstrates the longevity of this work. There are no quick fixes, or big change happening overnight—we are in it for the long haul, and I’m so proud of that. This work makes differences for the moms and babies in the following years, and following generations.”

Kylee’s Most Memorable Birth Moment

Kylee has been to a lot of births, but one stands out in a BIG way.

“I caught a baby a few months ago—wow.”

Yep, SHE caught the baby!

“This was obviously unplanned, but this baby was coming, and I knew what to do, so I did it,” she says. “However, what made it so memorable was how peaceful it was.”

Kylee has seen so many clients give birth when no one expected them to be that close—because they were calm, confident, and coping beautifully.

“That’s what happened with this client, and it was incredible to witness! I got to help her bring her own baby up out of the water, and there weren’t 100 voices shouting at her about what to do next. It was so powerful and peaceful. It’s a treasured memory.”

Common Myths About Doulas

One of the biggest misconceptions Kylee wants to clear up? Doulas aren’t anti-medicine!

“I’m not anti-medicine, not even anti-epidural,” she says. “I’m pro-autonomy and empowerment.”

A doula’s job isn’t to push a certain birth plan—it’s to support YOUR choices, whatever they may be.

Kylee’s Top 3 Birth & Postpartum Tips

Kylee has some powerful words of wisdom for expecting parents:

🌀 “Release and reset.” Labor can be unpredictable—go with the flow and trust your body.

💪 “The only way out is through.” Yep, labor is hard. But you CAN do this.

“You’ve handled everything life has thrown at you up until this point, and you will handle this too.” Mic drop.

Life Outside of Birth Work

So, what does a NoCo doula do when she’s not on call?

“I enjoy coffee shops and parks with my kids like the basic Colorado mom that I am! Oh, and thrifting! I’m a thrift store ninja and Goodwill makes me absurdly happy.”

(Okay, now I need to go thrifting with her because I also love thrifting and that sounds like a blast!)

I asked Kylee what she’d be doing if she wasn’t a doula and she said, “Sleeping?! Walking around Target? I honestly don’t know! This is it for me, baby! I guess if I had more time though, I would be putting it into all the dreams I have that are offshoots of this work. Developing education surrounding advocacy in a hospital setting is a huge passion and goal of mine. The same goes for bringing up other doulas who feel confident doing the same!”
