Longmont Newborn Photographer: Tips for a Stress-Free Session

Welcoming a new baby into your home is one of the most magical (and chaotic) times of life. My style of newborn photography is all about capturing the love, snuggles, and tiny details of this fleeting season. Whether you’re already booked or just starting to look for a Longmont newborn photographer, here’s everything you need to know to make the experience stress-free and enjoyable.

When to Book Your Newborn Session

My favorite time to photograph newborns is within the first two to four weeks after birth. Babies are still so tiny and everything is so new! That said, if life feels overwhelming in those early days, don’t stress! We can schedule your session anytime within the first couple of months to focus on more natural, baby-led moments.

Pro tip: Book your session during your pregnancy to ensure availability! I’ll add your due date to my calendar and you can let me know when baby decides to join us earth-side.

Preparing Your Home for a Newborn Session

First things first—don’t stress about your house being “perfect.” Trust me, I’ve got six kids, so I’m no stranger to chaos and clutter! Here’s what to focus on instead:

  • Lighting: All I need is a window with great natural light. If that’s in your bedroom, living room, or nursery, we’ll make it work.
  • Decluttering: You don’t have to deep clean! Just clear a few spots where we’ll photograph, like the bed or a cozy corner of the living room. I am happy to help move things around during the session.
  • Special Touches: If there are meaningful items you’d like included, such as a handmade quilt or a favorite toy, have them ready to go.

What to Wear for Your Newborn Photos

The focus of your newborn session is your family and connection—not your wardrobe. That said, here are a few tips to keep it simple:

  • Stick with neutrals or soft, solid colors. Avoid logos and busy patterns.
  • Choose comfortable, flowy clothing that makes you feel good. Maxi dresses and cozy knits work beautifully.
  • Be yourself! If jeans and a tee feel more “you,” go for it.
  • Dress baby in a simple onesie or outfit so we can capture their tiny details without distractions.
  • I’m totally fine with outfit changes, but let’s keep it to two so we’re not spending too much time and energy on your clothes. We want time to snuggle!

How to Make the Session Relaxed and Enjoyable

My goal is to make your newborn session as stress-free as possible. Here’s how we’ll keep things low-key:

  • Baby-Led Approach: If your little one needs to nurse, have a diaper change, or just a cuddle break, we’ll take our time. There’s no rush.
  • Warm Environment: Babies love to be cozy, so turning up the heat a little can help keep them comfortable.
  • Embrace the Chaos: Don’t worry about siblings or pets being “perfect.” The beauty is in capturing your family just as you are.
  • I Am Not A Guest In Your Home: Yes, it may be my first time there, but you do not need to worry about making me feel comfortable! I will make myself at home and ask for anything I might need. Resist the urge to apologize for the mess, your dogs barking, the toddlers running around in diapers, or you not being ready yet when I get there. I swear I am familiar with it all and I am there to help in any way I can. Mom-to-mom, parent-to-parent, honest.

Capturing Your Real-Life Story

At the end of the day, this session is about celebrating your family in this incredible season. It’s not about spotless homes or perfect poses—it’s about documenting the love, connection, and beautiful chaos of newborn life.

If you’re looking for a Longmont newborn photographer, I’d love to chat and help you capture these precious memories. Let’s make this a fun and relaxed experience you’ll treasure forever.
