Baby and Family Photography FAQs | Northern Colorado Newborn Photographer

Here are the most common questions I get about fresh 48, newborn, and family sessions. Let’s make sure you feel confident and ready for your session!

Fresh 48 Sessions

When do fresh 48 sessions happen?
Fresh 48 sessions typically happen in the hospital within 48 hours of your baby’s birth (or just before you get discharged home!) Just let me know when labor starts so I can plan accordingly.
If you’re birthing at a birth center or at home, we’ll document those first moments at home instead.

What happens if I book a fresh 48 but my baby ends up in the NICU?
It depends on your preferences and hospital policy. If the NICU allows me in and you’re comfortable with photos there, we’ll document there. If not, we can wait until your baby comes home to schedule a session.

Can my other kids be in the fresh 48 photos?
Absolutely! As long as your hospital allows visitors, your kids can be part of the photos. If they’re not allowed to visit, we can wait until you’re home to include them.

What should I wear for a fresh 48 session?
Most parents prefer comfy clothes, like a hospital robe or jammies from home. Simple, flowy items work best.

Newborn Photography Sessions

What is the difference between a fresh 48 and a newborn session?
A fresh 48 session captures your baby’s first moments within the first 48 hours at the hospital. These sessions focus a lot on your baby’s tiny details.
A newborn photography session is longer and more relaxed, with plenty of time for family interactions and baby-led moments. These can be scheduled anytime within the first few months of your baby’s life or after their homecoming.

What if my house isn’t as pretty as the ones in your photos, or it’s cluttered?
First, I promise I’m not judging your home. I have six kids—my house is probably messier than yours!
Second, this is your space, and it’s special because it’s where you brought your baby home. It’s okay if it’s full of baby gear and laundry!
All I need is at least one window with great light. If that’s in your bedroom or living room, just declutter that spot a little. I can also help move things around during the session.

What should I wear for a newborn session?
Simple and comfortable clothing works best, especially if we’re taking snuggly photos at home. Again, flowy items work great!

Family Photography Sessions

Where will our family photos be?
That’s totally up to you! Do you envision mountains, a lake, or a cozy home setting? I have a list of favorite spots in the area, and we’ll discuss what works best when you reach out.

What should I wear for a family session?
This depends on the season and location, but coordinating outfits are key (not matching!) Check out my Pinterest board for inspiration!

Will you share my photos?
Your images are yours. While I love sharing the beauty of babies and families, it’s entirely up to you. Once I deliver your gallery, you can decide which photos, if any, you’re comfortable with me sharing.

How do I book or ask more questions?
